Microsoft Office and Job Readiness Classes Available At No Cost to Unemployed Job Seekers

ELEPHANT BUTTE - The New Mexico Workforce Connection Centers are offering free computer software and job readiness classes to unemployed job seekers, plus a $100 incentive for successfully completing a class in Las Cruces and Silver City, NM. 
This service under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act is designed to assist unemployed persons who are seeking employment to complete short term courses that will make them more marketable to employers who are looking for those types of skills.
The classes currently being offered in Las Cruces and Silver City are being facilitated by three organizations. The individual organizations and some of the classes they are offering are:

DONA ANA COMMUNITY COLLEGE:

Introductory computer software classes include:
•    Microsoft ’07— Basis document skills (bilingual class also offered-some materials in Spanish).
•    Excel ’07— Excel basics, creating simple formulas
•    PowerPoint ‘07—Learn to create professional looking slides and handouts
•    Access ’07 —Learn to plan, create, and modify a database
•    MS Project ’07—Learn to create a new project files
•    Office 2010—Newest version of MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
•    Quickbooks ’11—Learn popular bookkeeping software.

Intermediate computer software classes include:
•    Word ’07—Learn how to insert tables, borders and shading, drawing objects, and more!
•    Excel ’07— Learn charts and graphs, managing large worksheets, and more!
•    Office 2010—Intermediate classes of the newest version of MS Office Word and Excel.          

Other classes offered to make the employees more marketable to potential employers:
•    Job Readiness—Learn ways to make a good first impression
•    Customer Service—Learn the Four Basic Needs of Customers
•    Business Writing—Improve writing skills through traditional and electronic communication
•    Indispensible Employee—Learn time management tips and organizing techniques.
•    Business Ethics for the Office—Easy way to solve every ethical decision you will ever have to make.
•    FranklinCovey’s FOCUS-Time Management Training—Identify and focus on top priorities and get more done in less time
•    ABC’s of Supervision—Discover your role as a supervisor.
•    Business Leadership-Becoming Management—Identify leadership profile and competencies to highlight    strengths, challenges, and more.

From Laid Off to Living: Designed to support the laid off individual on the journey out of fear, isolation, anger, and powerlessness of being laid off while restoring the energy needed to move on to productivity.

CYBERPROS:  (classes held in Silver City)
Basic computer skills and terminology, Word, Excel, and Customer Service: Designed to provide individuals with a solid foundation of basic computer knowledge and customer service skills, creating in them the competence and confidence that will make them an asset to any employer. Additionally, strategizing next steps in the job search.
